The Lodge of Instruction is a vital part of the development of the Lodge and its members. It offers the opportunity to members to practice the ceremonies in a friendly atmosphere, add to their daily advancement in masonic knowledge and to get to know the other members better in a more relaxed manner.
When the Lodge was Founded a Lodge of Instruction was discussed and as the Mother Lodge, Thomas Ralling was part of the Bagshaw Lodge of Instruction it was decided to be associated with that long standing Emulation LoI. As the vast majority of the Founders were already experienced masons this was felt a good compromise until the time was right to form an LoI dedicated to the Lodge itself.
In 2012 the Lodge decided to form its own LoI to accommodate the growing number of non Past Masters in the Lodge, and a suitable venue, The Rising Sun at Billericay, was found and the dates decided upon. However in 2014 the venue closed and another venue sought. At present the venue is:
- Venue: Cross Keys Masonic Centre, Chadwll St Mary
- Dates: Alternate Thursdays, plus Officers Nights before meetings
- Sessions: September to December and January to June
- Time: 7:30 pm
The first two years of the LoI has been quite successful with attendance being around 6 or more at each meeting.
- Preceptor – W Bro Keith Sims
- Assistant Preceptor – W Bro Dave Fage
- Secretary & Treasurer – Bro Arron Cain
The Lodge of Instruction moved permanently to Cross Keys in Chadwell St Mary and recommenced on Thursday 7 January 2016. Planned meetings for the year will be added as available. The aim of the schedule is to mix ceremony and ritual rehearsals with discussions and information sessions, called “Free Sessions”. These “Free Sessions” will allow members to raise issues around Freemasonry, practice general pieces of masonry and to prepare for being installed as the Master. So time will be spent discussing administration issues and what to do at the Festive Board.
Around a week before each Regular meeting there will be a Rehearsal of the appropriate ceremony at the Loughton Masonic Centre.
